These routines are written in 20 different languages for at least 14 different computer platforms. INTRODUCTION The introduction of programmable computers for scientific calculating really begins in the 1950s. Prior to this time, computers were mostly research projects and horne made devices. The commercial market for computers was estimated at less than 50 installations and that only the government could afford them.
